Our hospital features a large number of surgeries for severe complicated cardiac malformation requiring treatment immediately after birth, and the results have been good so far. We actively practice prenatal diagnosis with fetal echo, and in cooperation with the Saitama Medical University Hospital in Moro, we have set up a system that can initiate treatment immediately after birth.
We are working on improving treatment strategies and surgical methods with the aim of improving quality of life during growth. Hybrid surgery, which is a minimally invasive surgery combined with surgery and catheter treatment, is one example and we have a lot of experiences for this. Our hospital is the domestic leader in the field of hybrid surgery for the left heart hypoplasia syndrome which is particularly serious complicated congenital heart disease, with largest number of cases in Japan.
Some child patients who have grown up after surgery in childhood may require reoperation. We have set up a system that can provide the best treatment for such patients thought to increase in the future.
Revision of the organ transplantation law has paved the way for heart transplant for children and it is clear that the need for ventricular assist device for children will increase further. We have had more experiences in this field since before.
Ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, Fallot’s tetralogy, endocardial floor defect, transposition of the great arteries, anomalous pulmonary venous return, left hypoplasia syndrome, corrected transposition of great arteries, single ventricular (including tricuspid atresia), double-outlet right ventricle, pulmonary atresia, valve disease, coarctation of aorta, aortic arch interruption, patent ductus arteriosus, Epstein malformation, truncus arteriosus communis, and others. Other than congenital heart disease, it includes pediatric severe heart failure (cardiomyopathy, myocarditis), cardiac trauma, cardiac tumor, etc.
