Department of Breast Oncology
Medical services and specialties
We treat all diseases related to the mammary glands, and we specialize in early detection and treatment of breast cancer in particular. The International Medical Center is one of the certified facilities of the Japan Breast Cancer Society and receives high evaluation in Japan.
We also perform secondary screening (precise examination) of patients who have been scrutinized by local breast cancer screening.
Our department is equipped with the latest diagnostic imaging such as digital mammography, elastogram and ultrasonic device with blood flow Doppler function, mammary gland MRI, CT, PET, SPECT / CT etc., and we perform pathology using Mammotome (imaging- guided vacuum assisted tissue biopsy system).
About half of the treatments are provided with breast conservation surgery. In addition, breast reconstruction after mastectomy is performed in collaboration with Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (immediate / delayed reconstruction). In order to avoid upper limb lymphedema due to axillary lymph node dissection, sentinel lymph node biopsy is actively performed when the possibility of axillary lymph node metastasis is expected to be low. In addition, preoperative and postoperative adjuvant drug therapy is done in our department. In cases of recurrence / metastasis, we respond in cooperation with the Department of Palliative Medicine.
